Which size fits you?
Three measurements, one recommendation. Takes a minute.
To double-check: heel against the wall, mark the longest toe and measure the foot length, ideally in the evening.
Typical mistake: Trainer size. It runs half a size larger.
Measure both legs, the stronger one counts. Wear the breeches and socks you ride in. The tape sits snug but does not squeeze.
Typical mistake: Measured without breeches – then 1 cm is missing.
Bend the knee slightly, mark the lowest crease in the hollow of the knee, straighten again. Measure at the back from the floor to the mark, easier with a second person.
Typical mistake: Deliberately chosen higher. A new boot sits 1–2 cm higher anyway and settles with wear.
First the shoe size, then shaft height and calf width. Each cell shows whether that version is available.

How to find the right size for your riding boots
Use the manufacturer's size chart
Every manufacturer has a different cut. So always use the size chart for the specific model and check whether it gives your leg measurements or the measurements of the boot. With Busse, the numbers in the size refer to your leg measurements: '39 NN · Bein 46 cm · Wade 34–36 cm', for example, means a leg height of 46 cm and a calf circumference of 34–36 cm.
Measure your foot length
Measure the length of your foot from the longest toe to the heel, ideally in the afternoon or evening, and compare it with the manufacturer's size chart.
Measure your leg height (shaft height)
Bend your leg slightly and mark the lowest crease at the back of the knee. Then straighten your leg again and measure at the back from the floor to the mark. It's most accurate if a second person helps you.
Measure your calf circumference
Measure both calves at several points and take the widest circumference of the larger leg. If the manufacturer specifies a different way of measuring, follow that.
Clothing and time of day
When measuring, wear the breeches and riding socks you'll later wear in the boots, and measure at the time of day when you usually ride.
Choosing your size
- Choose the height and width exactly as the size chart specifies for your measurements. Don't deliberately buy tighter or higher.
- Many manufacturers, e.g. Busse, have already factored the dropping of the leather into their measurements. A new leather boot therefore sits a little higher and tighter at first. This is intentional and no reason to choose a different size.
- Boots with a synthetic shaft keep their shape, so the measurement should fit straight away.
- Your heel and ankle need a little play so that you can ride comfortably.
